Yum.Me an epic fun cooking competition premieres on SABC 3
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Yum.Me the exciting weekly cooking competition for teens and tweens (aged 8 to 16) in which young foodies compete to win the weekly prize and the title of Yum.Me Champion. Catch it Sundays at 10:00 on SABC3.
Yum.Me is a tasty, vibrant, up-to-the-minute cooking competition for young people that takes a scoop full of excitement, adds a good measure of real kitchen action, throws in a pinch of useful information and mixes it up to create a fun, exciting culinary experience for SA’s young foodies.
Each episode sees two different teams of two young, aspiring chefs compete to win the prize and the title of Yum.Me Champion. Armed only with a passion for cooking, the contestants are put through their paces, firstly with the quick-fire, Food Knowledge rounds, during which the Cheflets get the chance to earn advantages in the form of Brownie Points to use in the Cook-Off.
The first brownie point available is Extra Time which, in a time-based cooking challenge, is always welcome. The second is access to The Chef in the Cupboard. Formally trained, the chef can be released from the cupboard at any time during the Cook-Off to help out as required. But, there’s a catch. He can only be used once so they’ll need to be really sure that his assistance is needed. Afterwards, it’s back to the cupboard with no further help given.
During the Cook-Off, with or without Brownie Points, it’s up to the Cheflets to use their talent, knowledge and skills to turn the day’s Secret Ingredient into a delicious dish in the allocated time.
Judged by the two young presenters, Melo Moloto and Aphiwe Kani, and by the day’s Mystery Guest, each dish will be scored on Presentation, Creativity and Taste. The team that receives the highest overall score will walk away with the prize and the title of Yum.Me Champion!
With varied backgrounds, personalities, tastes and skills, our young contestants will have their culinary skills tested to the limit in this weekly format that combines the fun and excitement of competition with the satisfaction of serving delicious dishes you have made yourself.
Meet our young Presenters
APHIWE VINCENT KANI
Hailing from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, Aphiwe is a second year law student at the University of the Western Cape. Even though this may be his first official presenting role, Aphiwe is no stranger to the world of television having been one of a select few to be chosen as a takeover intern for the hit, daily, live, teen show, Hectic Nine-9 (SABC 2). Their annual Takeover Campaign aims to give young people the opportunity to experience the creation of a television program from inception to delivery and in this role Aphiwe served as a scriptwriter and content producer. While this opportunity enabled him to gain valuable experience and insight into the inner workings of the television industry, his passion for being in front of the camera didn’t waiver and he was one of the first in line to audition for Yum.Me when the opportunity arose. He believes that being awarded the role was one of the highlights of 2016. In fact, he received the good news on his 21st birthday which made the milestone that much more memorable. As a co-presenter on Yum.Me he brings a charming, likeable persona to the screen with his humorous antics and wit helping to make the young contestants feel at ease.
The baby of the Yum.Me family, Boitumelo (or Melo as she’s known by all) co-presents the series with a professionalism that belies her young years. She has a self-professed passion for broadcast media and aspires to be a successful journalist and media mogul. Drawing inspiration from, amongst others, her Dad who is a former journalist, she is currently in her second year of journalism studies at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Happiest in front of a camera or behind a microphone, Melo jumped at the opportunity to join Hectic Nine-9’s Takeover campaign in the hope that she would be awarded the role of one of the presenters. While this didn’t happen, it did make her more determined to succeed. She excelled as the Takeover Online Content Producer and continued to hone her presenting skills. A short while later she auditioned for the role of Yum.Me co-presenter and the rest, as they say, is history.
Tune in every Sunday at 10:00 for Yum.Me on SABC 3 to see who will walk away with the title of Yum.Me Champion.
