To Catch A Con Star Part Three
A Special Assignment exclusive investigation
From SA to the USA, from SAPS to the FBI, there are no boundaries to the scams of alleged serial fraudster, Tracy Morrison. But within the labyrinth of lies she has allegedly constructed about her life, there are terrifying threads of truth. In this third episode of To Catch a Con Star we reveal how she has been able to evade justice for decades.
For several years, particularly from 2005 to 2010, Morrison has allegedly had several officers at Sandton police station in her back pocket and one of them- a senior policeman- in her bed. Her former employees provided us with photographs of several officers- some of them on duty- being wined and dined at the sumptuous mansions Morrison pretended to own. These officers allegedly aided and abetted her scams, including her impersonation of an FBI officer.
With their help, she allegedly conducted a bogus investigation into a robbery at a Cummins warehouse in Wynberg and allegedly had Sandton police arrest four innocent employees. She allegedly also operated out of Sandton Police Station’s charge office where police officers took victims’ statements on her behalf.
Morrison allegedly lured a traumatised father to Sandton Police Station and informed him that she would take his six-year old daughter into ‘protective custody’ under the auspices of the USA Department of Justice because the child had apparently accused her father of child abuse. For several months she kept the little girl in a house she was renting - even registering her at a school as her own daughter until her distraught father managed to rescue her from Morrison’s clutches.
Morrison has never been tried for this crime.
To Catch a Con Star III is produced by Hazel Friedman.
