Predators of the Game Part 4
A Special Assignment investigation
This week on Special Assignment, following our year-long investigations into bogus soccer academies, we put police on the track of soccer coaches who have been accused of sexually abusing young boys in their care. Will they at long last face justice?
Our investigations have uncovered that these bogus soccer academies are thriving across the country, leaving hundreds of teenage boys vulnerable to serious neglect and sexual abuse. Many of these alleged abuses are happening with the knowledge of others in the soccer fraternity and the communities where the boys are recruited from. In this episode we ask: who must ultimately be held responsible for the well-being of these young soccer players amid a lack of a proper registration and monitoring processes. We accompany police Minister Bheki Cele during a raid in down-town Johannesburg and discover scores of boys being kept in unhealthy conditions in a hotel and an adjacent church by one of the suspects. But will he and the other men pinpointed in our investigations, face the full might of the law?
