Predators Of The Game Part 3
A Special Assignment investigation
Exactly a year after our initial exposé into bogus soccer academies, leaving hundreds of teenage boys vulnerable to serious neglect and sexual abuse, Special Assignment continues its investigations into the underbelly of an unrepentant criminal world.
In the first two-parts broadcast last year, we profiled several coaches who allegedly prey on unsuspecting young boys, as far afield as Zambia. The boys are recruited by the coaches to join their illegal soccer academies. According to the boys Special Assignment spoke to, some of whom are as young as 13-years-old, they had been sexually abused and neglected by the so-called coaches who were supposed to be their guardians.
In part III of Predators of the Game we track down more dubious coaches after following leads linking them with the men we exposed in our first two programmes. We also tell the heart breaking stories of two young boys who paid the ultimate price following their alleged abuse at the hands of these men – both of them died under mysterious circumstances. After pushing the police’s top brass for answers, Police Minister Bheki Cele vowed in an interview with Special Assignment to crack down on these bogus academies and arrest the men involved.
Watch part three of Predators of the Game produced by Lee McCabe and Siphiwe Linda, broadcast on Special Assignment, Sundays on SABC 3 at 21h30.
