With Youth Day coming up on June 16, SABC3 profiles youth doing extraordinary things
During this years Youth Month SABC3 has decided to celebrate youth that has been doing inspirational things with great achievements. We asked them what their stage of mind was, Mogau Seshoene founder of "The Lazy Makoti' and Sheldon Kenneth Tatchell founder of "Legends Barbershop" are the two profiles picked for this month.
Mogau Seshoene Bio:
Mogau Seshoene founded The Lazy Makoti in 2014 after leaving corporate to pursue a love for food and the preservation of South Arica cuisine and heritage. She has since made The M&G top 200 Young SA list in 2015 and shot a season of a TV cooking show “Cooks For Life” where she demonstrated easier and healthier ways to prepare African cuisine.
In 2016 she obtained a Diploma in Culinary arts from The Culinary Training and Innovation Academy in Centurion and completed the industry training under Chef Werner at The Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg. In the same year, she took part in The Mandela Washington Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Stout.
Through The Lazy Makoti she continues to work to preserve South African food through cooking classes, bespoke catering and digital and social media
Sheldon Kenneth Tatchell Bio:
Sheldon Kenneth Tatchell, was born on 30 January 1989, to his parents Kenneth Tatchell and Shereen Tatchell at the Coronationville Hospital in Johannesburg. He is the 2nd born child to his parents, his older brother being Brendon Tatchell. He also has a younger sister, named Zeandre Tatchell.
Sheldon attended the Heerengracht Primary School in Eldorado Park and completed his schooling career at Silver Oaks Secondary School in 2006. He was an avid boxer and his debut as a professional boxer was announced in 2010.
Sheldon started working at Standard Bank in 2007 to 2014. Whilst working at Standard Bank, the first Legends Barbershop came into existence in early 2011. Sheldon and a friend decided to start their own barbershop as both of them had a passion for men's grooming. Starting this business on a sidewalk at the local Spar shopping complex in Extension 2 in Eldorado Park, was the birth of this Legendary brand every knows and loves today.
Mid 2011, the duo then had the capability to move to a pool club within the Eldorado Park area to accommodate and better serve their growing customer base.
On 4 December 2011, at the age of 22, Sheldon married his then girlfriend, and current wife Elverna Tatchell.
Whilst on honeymoon, his partner made some bad business decisions and upon Sheldon's return, the business had closed down and employees were left unemployed.
Being the visionary that Sheldon is, he did not allow the setback of the business to influence what he wanted to achieve and on 26 July 2014, he opened his Barbershop at Crystal Mall in Eldorado Park Ext 6. This time running solo. In September 2014, Sheldon resigned from Standard Bank to pursue his dream wholeheartedly. The year 2014 was a pivotal year for Sheldon as it was the rebirth of his business.
In July 2015, Sheldon opened his 2nd branch in Florida, West of Johannesburg and soon after in June 2016 his 3rd branch in Soweto at The Venue in Zone 6. His 4th branch was opened in Hatfield, Pretoria on 29 April 2017, The Workshop at Newtown Junction Mall on 30 September and most recently his 6th was opened in Florida Road, Durban on 02/12/2017.
He also has an Exclusive Mobile Barber Bus which was launched on 07 September 2017, which boasts facilities like uncapped WiFi, PS4, complimentary drinks to name a few.
Sheldon's celebrity customer base started when his services extended to an Exclusive Mobile Service with his personal vehicle. His first customer being Kermit Erasmus from Orlando Pirates FC. His success has grown from strength to strength, and he is now known to be the personal barber of many celebrities, such as Riky Rick, Keegan Dolly, Loot Love, Masechaba Ndlovu, Reason, Anaii, to name but a few and has a staff complement of over 50 men and ladies across the 6 branches.
Sheldon is a father of 2 beautiful kids, a daughter, Cassidy Tatchell, aged 4 and a son,Christian Tatchell, aged 1. Legends Barbershop is already in planning stages for their 7th store opening at Sun City Resort in June 2018.
